GET TO KNOW “LOST IN PREALPS”: THE BIKE-PACKING EVENT YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED

[ssbp]

The Lost in Prealps is a bike-packing and randonneur event that was formed as a way to enjoy and embrace the natural beauty of the Venetian Prealps in Italy.

A group ride that brings together like-minded individuals with the same passion for travel and cycling, Lost in Prealps offers a route that allows one to revel in the experience of being one with the mountains.

Born from a deep love of cycling turning into an ambitious project, the idea is all about the necessity to share the experience with others, pretty much like an artist trying to paint his emotions on a blank canvas.

This event has been organized to share with like-minded individuals the sensations that only a long bike ride can give. There’s no other way of going through these sensations but through the experience itself.

This year, the path goes along the provinces of Treviso, Belluno and Pordenone. A certified adventure, the path includes remote and wild places, sites of historical importance, mountain ridges of incomparable beauty.

Through the Komoot app, a track of about 120 km and 3,000 m in altitude has been created. There will be numerous refreshment points that can be found during the trail, including huts and farms. A gastronomic journey as well as a beautiful ring that can be fully pedaled await.

Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the ride will still be available even though the event has been cancelled. Through the app, the participants will have the opportunity to plan their personal adventure whenever they want, and in total respect of the current limitations imposed by the decrees on security and social distancing.

The lostinprealps.org site will contain all the necessary information along with news on initiatives… in perfect Lost style! We sat down with the organizers to find out more about the group and their passion for outdoors.

Could you tell us more about Lost in Prealps? How did the idea of Lost In Prealps come about?

LOST IN PREALPS is a diverse group of outdoor enthusiasts, brought together by common passions – cycling and travel. It all started with a deep love of cycling turning into an ambitious project. The idea was born from a necessity to share the experience with others, pretty much like an artist trying to paint his emotions on a blank canvas.

I wanted to share with like-minded individuals the sensations that only a long bike ride can give. There’s no other way of going through these sensations but through the experience itself.

Personally, only after going through it did I understand that the multiday format in bike-packing is probably the best way to get to know the Prealps. And spending the weekend in your own company, or with a group of close friends, seems the best way of doing it.

The feeling of getting lost in the woods and then finding my way back is what makes it special. Imagine the imagery of the mountains all around, which I could only navigate through intuition. Hence the name of this ambitious project – Lost in Prealps.

Where does passion for outdoor come from?

Our passion for outdoor comes mainly from the area in which we live. The Treviso plain located an hour from the sea and an hour from the mountain offers many possibilities. Very often, we have fun exploring the most remote corners of these lands.

For us, it means plowing new paths, discovering the stories of the locals, documenting our landscapes through photography, enjoying all that unspoiled nature can offer.

What are the technical characteristics of this route? Could you tell us more about what the difference in altitude, roads, refreshment points, etc. are like?

The path of this edition goes along the provinces of Treviso, Belluno and Pordenone. It’s a certified adventure – remote and wild places, sites of historical importance, mountain ridges of incomparable beauty.

The participants can plan according to their own level of adventure, including choosing the day of departure and arrival, at their own pace and no time limit.  The focus of the experience will be more on the mystique and unforgettable adventure that the mountains offers.

This year we have chosen the Cansiglio Forest. With the help of the Komoot app we have created a track of about 120 km and 3,000 m in altitude to be covered with mountain bikes and gravel. There will be numerous refreshment points that can be found during the trail, especially huts and farms. A gastronomic journey as well as a beautiful ring that can be fully pedaled await.

What does it mean to live the #tuttomoltolost?

The imagination we created around the event and the format is very strong indeed. Initially a term I personally coined, “Lost” has stuck in the minds of people who have experienced it. Immediately after the first edition, people have understood the meaning of the concept that only these mountains are able to express.

Lost can be attributed to a person when it is a little bizarre. Lost is a place where you can breathe a dark atmosphere. Lost can mean so many things – it can be about a place where you can breathe in the mystical and wild atmosphere, or the feeling within you as you go through the experience.

#tuttomoltolost is the natural extension of the first concept that many have started to use to immortalize with your mobile phone. It’s a situation, a moment, an emotion during an outdoor activity – a bit like getting lost and then finding yourself, making a small leap into a parallel world and then returning to earth.

What makes this trail special?

The territory and the people – two things that we consider as the cornerstone of this project. We founded the principles of our association on these two fundamentals by trying to promote culture and the discovery of stories in addition to the mountains, raising awareness among people about sustainability, respect for nature and clean exploration, using ecological means such as bicycle that in bike-packing finds its maximum expression.

It is a path along what we have chosen, but it is what makes this project special and different from many others. We have an identity as strong as our ideals.

This year, due to Covid-19, the event was canceled. Will it still be possible to have the track?

Definitely. The track will soon be available on our Komoot profile, an application that can be downloaded for free from the app store. By registering for the event, everyone will have the opportunity to plan their personal adventure whenever they want, and in total respect of the current limitations imposed by the decrees on security and social distancing.

After registering, with a donation that will help us carry out social initiatives, it will be possible to obtain a free Komoot voucher to unlock the map of our region and surrounding areas, so that you can take advantage of all navigation services. The lostinprealps.org site will contain all the necessary information along with news on initiatives… in perfect Lost style!
