Elastic memory is what enables padding to return to its original shape after being stretched, compressed, or distorted. One of the hallmarks of our foams is an excellent elastic memory, a feature of all Elastic Interface® cycling pads. This enables the foams to return to their original shape after being compressed to guarantee protection for cyclists, ride after ride.
We use open-cell polyurethane foams for Elastic Interface® pads. Open-cell foams allow air to pass freely between the cells so sweat is absorbed and wicked away more quickly. When air flows freely, the skin breathes more easily and stays drier. This means enhanced comfort, less sweat and fewer rashes.
Reliability is synonymous with quality. The materials we select and develop are engineered to maintain their characteristics over time, for long-lasting support and protection.
Foams only provide support if they have enough compression resistance to counter the load and prevent bottoming out. The higher the density, the more weight or force is needed to deform the foam. This is why it’s so important to have high-density foams, especially on longdistance rides: The longer a rider spends in the saddle, the greater resistance the foam needs to have to counter the rider’s weight.
Foam density is not measured by weight. It’s a measurement of mass per unit volume. We use kilograms divided by cubic meters kg/m³). Our pad density ranges from 40 kg/m³ up to 200 kg/m³ in the Hybrid Cell System. Tasked with choosing the right combination for each pad, our research and development team analyzes the qualities of the foams and creates the perfect mix for every product.
All our fabrics are designed to enhance comfort, performance and durability. Each fabric has a different composition with specific characteristics. We offer pre- and post-consumer recycled fabrics, and also finishing processes that nobilitate our fabrics and enhance performance.
We never underestimate the importance of how our fabrics are dyed. It’s crucial that the color on the pads is never transferred to the skin, especially in delicate areas that come in contact with the pad. Our piece-dyed fabrics guarantee color fastness in high-moisture situations, even when subjected to constant localized friction.
Every one of our fabrics has a hydrophilic treatment that helps ensure a faster draining of sweat and humidity. The REPOC (reduced points of contact) construction of our top fabrics promotes micro air circulation and prevents skin from overheating.
A pad must feel great against the skin, but it also has to be breathable and quick drying. We achieve this with a technique known as brushing. If the fabrics are made with carbon filaments, they undergo one more step called emerizing, which ensures an even softer feel.
Since the concept of stretch was introduced to textiles, fabrics have become much better at adapting to the movements of the body. Being able to work with a cyclist’s physique to follow every pedal stroke without any stiffness, unwanted chafing or friction is the key feature of any Elastic Interface® cycling pad.
Caring for our product quality also means keeping up to date our list of restricted substances. PFAS have been a critical topic in the textile industry and, thanks to our PRSL, we are able to test and verify that our chamois are free from such substances.
